I had always wanted a Clydesdale when I contacted UPF about adopting a Clydesdale from Canada.

There were several foals brought down that were from a PMU farm. The irony is that these beautiful registered horses could have just as easily ended up in a slaughter stockyard if it weren’t for Helen Meredith and her organization, the United Pegasus Foundation.

With the help of a very knowledgeable staff member, Jolie Buffin, I decided on a young stud foal, and named him Thunder. Thunder had very little experience with people, having just been taken out of a pasture in Canada, yet he was very calm, and wise beyond his age. Within a few days, I was able to lead, halter and pick up his feet. A few months later, I took him to a horse show in Pomona, and won first place in a halter class.

Thunder is now 4 years old and just a easy going soul who has brought our family much happiness. He is now broke to ride, and we hope to introduce him to a harness and cart soon. He has shown such a willingness to do anything, and is very trusting.

I believe that we as humans have been entrusted to provide for horses like Thunder and the many others that United Pegasus rescues and adopts out to homes every year. During these difficult economic times, please remember that horses just like Thunder are in even greater need of your support due to dwindling charitable support. The are still trusting us, with big sweet eyes, that we will all do the right thing by them.
